DESCRIPTION:Just when you are ready to despair of human systems in general and healthcare in particular making any sense at all\, something comes along that represents a shining point of light. Susannah Fox’s wonderful MIT Press book “Rebel Health: A Field Guide to the Patient-Led Revolution in Medical Care” is a case in point. Fox was the Chief Technology Officer for the US Department of Health and Human Services\, where she led an open data and innovation lab\, and now is a consultant and advisor to forward-thinking organizations in the healthcare area. What I just love about her book\, which advances a similar message as Paul LeBlanc’s book “Broken\,” is that she shows how humans can create small revolutions by coming together with one anothers’ interests at heart. Scaling human systems is difficult – connecting patients\, caregivers and survivors to one another can bring their humanity back in. I was thrilled to meet Susannah in person after being introduced by another one of my favorite people\, expert on all things greater Princeton\, Barbara Figge Fox.
